Model Selection
Hufcor accordion doors are available in several models. The models vary by the amount of acoustical separation provided. Non-acoustical accordion doors are a good choice where sound control is not an issue. For example: to enclose a storage area or close off a hallway.
All Hufcor accordion door consists of a steel pantograph, a lead and trail post, steel ball bearing carriers with nylon tires, and two covers. Steel laminated in the cover, and sweepstrips (soft multi-ply vinyl strips) are added to the acoustical models 3100, 3500, 3900, 4100 and 4500. In addition, the lead post has magnetic seals to help keep the door sealed tightly against the Magnaseal® jamb. The higher the acoustical rating, the heavier the steel used.
Tip:
Although doors may be ordered up to 40'0" in length, we recommend they be ordered in narrower widths and be connected on site. Large doors plus their crating weigh hundreds of pounds. Smaller doors make the logistics of shipping, getting your doors to the appropriate location in the building, and installing much easier and less costly.
Sizes
Individual door sizes range from 3'0" [914mm] to 40'0" [12.19m] in width and to 17'0" [5.18m] in height. Counter height doors are available for small openings and for longer openings, multiple doors may be connected with optional posts.
Acoustical Ratings
An acoustical rating is achieved as a result of sound tests conducted in an accredited acoustical laboratory according to test standard ASTM E90. Refer to our Freedom from Distraction brochure for more information on sound ratings and test procedures.
Use the following chart as a reference for what the various STC .levels mean in terms of privacy (STC refers to Sound Transmission Class). Note this is a rough guide.

If you need sound separation, Series 3100, 3500, or 3900 is a good choice. Your Hufcor Distributor will be happy to help you select the best rating for your needs.
Tip:
The higher the acoustical rating, the more expensive the price of the door. Make certain that the room in which your acoustically rated folding door is being installed has a sound rating similar to the accordion door or the door will not provide the sound control you were expecting.
